In a typical Flow Yoga in Motion (FYM) class, some 40 – 50 basic postures are sequenced so that one posture flows easily into the next and all are enlivened by slow long inhales and exhales, and most of the postures are further enlivened by small and sometimes larger movements. Usually I’d say that the movements are optional but everything you do in my class is optional as you are wise to only follow instructions that work for your body in the moment of practice. Having made this disclaimer, every instruction I offer carries with it a sincere hope that it will be something that you can try out to the extent that it is comfortable for you. Imagine that each posture is like a new life experience you are given and your job is to make each one as enjoyable and therapeutic as possible. Hatha Yoga - influenced by the Anusara style
Anusara Yoga is practiced with -
- Attitude - opening to grace. The power of the heart is the force behind every action or expression in an asana (pose).
- Alignment - each pose is performed with awareness between all parts of the body, the inner and the outer.
- Action - each pose balances muscular stability with joyful and expansive inner freedom.
Hatha Yoga - influenced by the Anusara style is not limited to asana technique or technical instruction. Yoga begins with your intention, an inspiration that fills your practice with life and becomes a force that transforms your life in line with your highest intentions.
In the experience of yoga we seek the experience of our innermost Self, not limiting this Self to the "I" we experience in our everyday life of doing, thinking, feeling, and sensing, but rather the experience we have in moments of calm and peace, in moments of mental focus, heartfelt compassion and unconditional love.

Kripalu Yoga emphasizes relaxation by using breathing techniques. It focuses on listening to and respecting the messages of the body through the development of a nonjudgmental state of awareness, inviting a gentle and compassionate relationship with one's self. Each class includes brief meditation, breathing, asanas and joint warm ups. Also included are a variety of gentle to moderate stretching postures and balancing poses.
Restorative poses are poses of being, of practicing deliberate stillness. During restorative poses the nervous system becomes quieter, allowing tension to melt away as you become present to what is happening in the body and mind, moment by moment. Each pose is supported by the use of props, alternately stimulating and relaxing the body as it moves toward balance. Whether feeling fatigued, stressed or recovering from illness or injury, restorative yoga allows you to continue your practice in harmony with the natural rhythms of your body.
This class is designed for the student who has little or no yoga experience. Basic yoga postures and breathing techniques will be taught. You need not be flexible, strong, or fit to participate in this class. All body types and all ages are welcome!
This class is for students who have been practicing yoga for at least a year and are ready to deepen their practice, learn more about pranayama and begin to explore the practice of meditation.
